dd: +44 (0)20 3633 1472

Sean is a specialist in the law and practice of legal costs and a qualified Costs Lawyer committed to supporting his clients, developing relationships with them and promoting their interests, all the while maintaining the highest professional standards.

Sean entered the costs arena in 2011, as a Law Costs Draftsman at a national costs consultancy firm, after obtaining a Law degree and taking an interest in the increasingly complex and specialised area of legal costs while studying for his Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Law. He has since developed a detailed knowledge of and expertise in the field of legal costs and successfully completed the ACL training course to be recognised as a Costs Lawyer.

During his time in the field Sean has worked on many large and complex claims for legal costs, including:

  • A multi-million pound patent dispute with international elements and multiple jurisdictional aspects.
  • Multi-party injunction proceedings, one of which included a counterclaim for commissions due and various declarations and claims for breach of several agreements, and another a high-profile defamation claim.
  • Actions against the Secretary of State for the Home Department for Judicial Review.
  • A large multi-million pound budgeted group litigation claim involving a mis-sold property investment.

Sean mainly practices in costs payable between the parties and has involvement in all the necessary procedural steps for either party, providing a full range of legal costs services from the costs drafting and management stages through to detailed assessment, to include drafting and advising in relation to costs budgets, statements of costs and detailed and phased bills of costs as well as points of dispute and replies.

Whilst Sean’s services are predominantly sought by firms of solicitors ranging up to top-tier international firms, he is also instructed by members of the public.

As a Costs Lawyer, Sean has rights of audience and routinely represents clients at CCMCs, interim application hearings, provisional assessment oral hearings and detailed assessments. Sean also holds the right to conduct (costs) litigation and is regulated by the Costs Lawyer Standards Board.

Sean joined the DeNovo team in December 2016 and clients of the firm regard him highly for his studious, calm and pragmatic approach.
